Preventive Dentist in Wilton

Understanding

Preventive Dentistry

To keep your child’s teeth healthy as they move from baby teeth to adult teeth, Dr. Sebro may recommend a variety of preventive measures. Along with proper brushing and flossing routines, these procedures can help stop harmful cavities and other infections from forming, or squash them before they do major damage to your child’s teeth. Depending on the patient, there are several preventive measures we may recommend. Here’s your opportunity to learn more about what Wilton Pediatric Dentistry can do for your child.

Two happy sisters

Protective

Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating placed on your child’s tooth. For children who are especially prone to developing cavities, these protective barriers, paired with a healthy diet and daily brushing and flossing, can make all the difference when it comes to cavities. Children with deeper molar grooves are generally more at risk.

Dr. Sebro will inspect each tooth at every visit, and when your child’s permanent molars have erupted (generally between the ages of 6 and 12), she may recommend a sealant. The procedure is quick, painless, and provides a barrier that will last for years.

Metal Free

Composite Fillings

When a cavity is discovered in your child’s tooth, the first step is always to contact Wilton Pediatric Dentistry to have the infected material removed as soon as possible. Though there are many kinds of materials used for fillings, our practice only uses non-metal materials. They are BPA-free, safe and effective. Plus, they match the color of your child’s teeth, so they won’t be self-conscious of any metallic shine in their smile.

Restorative

Dental Crowns

When a child’s tooth becomes damaged beyond the point where a simple filling would repair it, Dr. Sebro will likely recommend a dental crown. This super-strong “cap” is long-lasting and comes in a variety of pre-fit sizes to fit most children’s teeth. Your child will be able to keep their primary tooth root but have the strength and functionality of a crown until they naturally lose the tooth. This helps ensure that the adult tooth below comes in as straight as possible.
